Holy moly it's already March! February flew by and hopefully the cold can go with it...fingers crossed! :) Anyways, here is a look at our week!
Things To Note:
Have a wonderful weekend!
- I/E: We are really loving the book, "Holes!" I can't get some of them to stop reading it! In addition to continuing our novel, we also got our Pen Pal letters back from our friends in Texas! Students love receiving letters from their pen pals in another state and writing back thoughtful letters to them.
- ELA:
- Strategy: Visualize
- Skill: Point of View (first and third person)
- Genre: Tall Tale
- Phonics/Spelling: Syllables Ending With consonant /el/ and /en/
- Vocabulary Strategy: Antonyms vs. Synonyms
- Grammar: Pronouns & Antecedents
- Greek/Latin Root Words: Flect, Flex
- Math: We continue with decimal division in math. This week, we learned about how to use models (base ten blocks) to help us divide decimals, the standard procedure and annexing zeros when there are "no more digits" left. Overall, students are doing really well! Continuing to master their basic fast facts in multiplication and division, as well as the basic process of long division, are key concepts in understanding the decimal division we are currently focusing on.
- Social Studies: We officially finished all four lessons for Chapter 4. We started reviewing for this chapter earlier int he week. Helping your child study at home using the study guide we completed at home is the best way to help them prepare. The test for Chapter 4 will be this upcoming Tuesday, March 5th.
- Science: This week we focused on "Earth's Systems" and the four different spheres. We learned about the biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and geosphere and what each of these different "spheres" consist of. Using this knowledge, students are currently working in teams to create a diorama that demonstrates and shows all four spheres. I can't wait until these are complete!
Things To Note:
- Trimester 3: We are officially in the third trimester and report cards for trimester 2 are now available to view through PowerSchool.
- There will be an early dismissal on Thursday, March 7th due to Parent Teacher Conferences. I have already reached out to parents that I would like to meet with. If you were not contacted, but would still like to meet, please reach out via email as soon as possible so we can schedule a time.
- No School on Friday, March 8th
Have a wonderful weekend!
