We finally had a warm up in weather and I'm hoping the warm-ish temperatures are here to stay :) Due to IAR (formally known as PARCC) testing this week and next, our schedule has been a little wacky. We have been fitting in all our other core subjects surrounding our testing window.
Things To Note:
Have a wonderfully (green) weekend!
- I/E: We are continuing with "Holes" and almost towards the end of the book now! We will hopefully be able to finish before Spring Break :))
- ELA: All of our focus areas in ELA, including comprehension, spelling and greek/latin roots, are spread out over this past week and next week. Since we do not get as much time to really focus on these areas due to IAR testing, we wanted to take two weeks to learn and apply these skills and concepts so that we are prepared for our weekly assessment next Friday.
- Strategy: Summarize - We read about Frederick Douglass and his positive impact on American history. Students worked in partners to summarize the short story we read.
- Skill: Author's Point of View
- Genre: Biography
- Phonics/Spelling: Homographs
- Vocabulary Strategy: Prefixes & Suffixes
- Grammar: Pronouns & Verb Agreement
- Greek/Latin Root Words: Fract, Frag, Frail
- Math: We finished up Topic 6 about Dividing Decimals this week. We took time to review what we have learned over the last several weeks. Our test is this upcoming MONDAY, MARCH 18!! The best way for students to prepare over the weekend, is to do any reteaching problems or practice assessment questions in their textbook for topic 6.
- Social Studies: We are taking a break from Social Studies until after spring break when we will start Chapter 5 :))
- Science: This week we continued to focus on "Earth's Systems" and the four different spheres. We are applying our knowledge of the biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and geosphere and what each of these different "spheres" consist of to create a diorama with their teams. This diorama will demonstrate and show all four spheres through a realistic scene using various materials such as clay, paint, sand, rocks, figures, etc. These should be done by next week and I'm looking forward to seeing how they all come together!
- Women's History Month: In order to honor Women's History Month, students began a research project that requires them to research a notable woman in United States history. These women include Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Sally Ride, Mae Jemison and Melba Pattillo. With their research, they will create a timeline of the important events in that woman's life, as well as a "postage stamp" that represents their notable woman. We will be continuing with these into next week and should hopefully have them displayed in the hallway before Spring Break!
Things To Note:
- SPRING BREAK: Spring Break will be the week of March 25-30.
- IAR Testing: Testing will continue next week Tuesday-Thursday. Please make sure your child has headphones with them at school in order to utilize the video/sound features in these tests.
Have a wonderfully (green) weekend!
